The Road to Victory was a campaign formulated by Sky Marshal Collins. It consisted of going to a planet infested by the Arachnids, deploying troops to exterminate them, and jumping to the next system, a variation of the naval doctrine of island-hopping. Collins resigned when the campaign began to slow and the Arachnids resurfaced on Praxis. He was succeeded by Admiral Dienes, who quickly put the "Road to Victory" back on its original timetable.

- The term "Leapfrogging", also called "island hopping", was originally a military strategy of the 20th century in the Pacific Theater of World War II. The strategy employed by the US Navy command was to bypass heavily fortified Japanese positions and invading only strategically chosen islands in order to make the most direct advance towards the Japanese motherland.
