The Morita III Assault Rifle is a weapon in use with the Mobile Infantry during the Second Bug War. Some M.I. units were equiped with the Morita III, however it never replaced the Morita Assault Rifle as the standard weapon assigned to Troopers. Despite strong stopping power the weapon was considerably bulkier than other rifles.

History[]

ST3morita3carbine

Carbine variant

Early in the Second Bug War the Morita III was starting to replace the Morita I and II rifles. Terran Command security forces, along with several Mobile Infantry and Marine units were requiped with the Morita III rifles. However, the majority of the Mobile Infantry was still using the older rifle variants during the Battle of Kwalasha with Tactical officers having priority for Morita IIIs.

After the introduction of the Power Suit, the Morita III is replaced permanently with the new Morita Mk IV Rifle which was compatible with the armor's systems

Behind the Scenes[]

  • The Morita III rifle props are built around the Vektor R4/R5 series of rifles; the South African version of the Israeli Galil ARM rifles (both the R4 and the Galil are based on the Kalashnikov AK-47 automatic rifle). Casings are ejected rather obviously from the rifles when they're fired, but whether this was intentional or not is unknown.
  • Judging by the description, the Morita operates similarly to the M41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens - electric pulse-ignited caseless 10 mm assault rifle with a max capacity of 99 rounds with an underslung 30 mm launcher. The only differences are that the M41A features a manual action for the launcher and a shorter (10x24 mm) cartridge.
