The Athena class are a type of military starship used by the United Citizen Federation's Fleet. First deployed during the Second Battle of Klendathu, the Athena class is larger than the Corvette Transports that can be seen passing the Shiloh at Sanctuary.
History[]
Introduced during the First Bug War, a formation of Athena-class ships deployed Mobile Infantry in DR-4 Viking dropships during the early stages of the Second Battle of Klendathu.[1]
These ships were featured on FedNet as part of a program advertising the advances in technology developed by the Federation since earlier in the First Bug War.
By the Second Bug War, at least two Athena-class Starships received an upgrade that greatly extended their superstructure; this version of the ship type had large exterior structures added on its dorsal and ventral sections. They were also modified to contain M11 Babar drop pods.
After the Battle of Roku San General Hauser deployed the Mobile Infantry survivors from Roku San led by Coloneal Rico onboard the Shiloh to train on the Marauder Project which would see the first deployment of the M11 Babar.
After convincing Admiral Phid of his loyalty to the United Citizen Federation General Hauser had the Marauder Project transfered to her flagship the York. This ship along with an escort fleet of Corvette Transports travelled to OM-1 where the M11 Babar squad was dropped onto the planet rescuing two surviviors Captain Beck and Flight attendant Little. After retrieval from the surface the York launched a Q Bomb at the planet. Upon impact the planet was completely destroyed killing its God Bug.[2]
