Jump Ball is a sport that resembles modern day American football and Rugby. The sport contains a mix of American football tactics and maneuvers used in gymnastics. Jump Ball is played by many high school teams and basically appears to be a modified version of American football as many elements to do with the sport such as helmets, padding, and cheerleaders are the same.
It differs from football in that it is played on what seems to be a 50 yard playing field. A touchdown is worth 5 points (as opposed to American football being for 6 points) . The clock seems to keep running even after scores. Rico would score twice and Zander once for 5 points for each of their long touchdown plays in what turned out to be a 46-43 victory for Rico's team. There are seven players on the field for each team as opposed to eleven for football
It is played by schools in the world including the one Johnny Rico attends. Other players include Dizzy Flores and Zander Barcalow. Starship Troopers (1997 film). Known teams include the Buenas Aires Tigers and the Tesla Giants.

- In Starship Troopers anime episode "Johnnie", Johnny is a member of highschool football team.
- At the Graduation Prom, Dizzy confirms she will be playing for a team in Rio post graduation, unless a team in Tokyo lets her start. It was unclear if these were college or professional level teams.
