This page is about the film character, for his counterpart in the novel, see Breckinridge (novel).

Breckinridge was a trainee who enlisted for Federal service in the Mobile Infantry. Not the most intelligent of his unit, Breckinridge was still a likable recruit and showed some bravery on his first day in basic training, challenging his drill sergeant in hand-to-hand combat.

History[]

Although Breckinridge came from a family of farmers, he hated farming so he saw enlistment in the Mobile infantry as an easy way out. He once described the Mobile Infantry as a picnic in comparison to farming.

Breckinridge was stationed at Camp Currie for training for the Mobile Infantry. In his unit's initial inspection by Sergeant Zim, Breckinridge volunteered when Zim haughtily asked if anyone in the unit had the courage to fight him. Breckinridge was immediately thrown to the ground by Zim, who then mercilessly broke Breckinridge's right forearm. Later, when the squad was at chow, Breckinridge watched as Johnny Rico stopped Ace Levy from forcing his way ahead of everyone else in the chow line. After Ace relented, Breckinridge happily started shoving Ace toward the back of the line.

During a live firing exercise, he had a helmet malfunction. With his helmet interfering with his sight, Breckinridge blocked the line of fire of several other members of his squad who were concerned with losing points. His squad leader, Johnny, intervened to see what the problem was and ordered Breckinridge to remove his helmet to inspect it. As this happened, recruit Djana'D was hit by a beam from a training laser, which knocked her to the ground. As she collapsed, a spray of bullets left her weapon and hit Breckinridge in the head, killing him immediately.

The incident resulted in Johnny being held responsible for the accident. He was subjected to ten lashes in front of the entire training unit. He became so upset with his mistake and failure, he quit the Mobile Infantry. But the meteor attack on Buenos Aires made him change his mind, and he stayed with the Mobile Infantry.
