- The ship was either named for Confederate General John Bell Hood or HMS Hood, a succession of ships in the British Royal Navy named for Viscount Samuel Hood.
- Most of the objects from Starship Troopers are named after those from the 20th century, it is possible Hood is named after HMS Hood (51) during the World War II.
